Tower of Babble is a satire based upon the foundation of faith and mythology and is billed as Three stories built beyond belief. Through a trinity of short stories and an interweaving segment, the film offers a humorous spin on dogmatic precepts and religious doctrines. The segments are comprised of Duty & the Priest, Scapegoat, God the Father, and a wrap-around piece entitled Lifeline. The result is a light-hearted, yet sometimes raw look at the image we create of our gods and idols.
In Duty & the Priest, A nervous transgressor unknowingly confides his darkest secrets to a church custodian cleaning the confessional. The custodian takes more than his confession in this dark religious satire with a twist.
Scapegoat is a supernatural story about a misanthropic traffic reporter, disappointed in his career and in humanity, who blames all his suffering on uncontrollable earthly evils. When a traffic accident leaves him clinically dead, he unexpectedly confronts the evil source... Lucifer, who makes him question his loathing for the world and humanity. The Dark Overlord explains his views of the universe, as well as "his side" of the Old Testament in this comic tale of the afterlife.
God the Father is an offering not to be refused! In the story, the heavens are run like an organized crime family. After being snubbed by Zeus, God the Father prepares for a gang war of epic proportions.
Lifeline (the wrap-around story) follows a desperate man, determined to speak with God who finds himself at the other end of a frustrating inter-galactic bureaucracy.
The film, which began as a play that ran Off-Broadway for five weeks this past April & May, was written by the Long Island Colossal Molehill team of Joseph Sikorski and Michael Calomino, the duo behind the award-winning cult-independent feature films Arbor Day (a satire of the holiday horror genre) and more recently, the controversial mock-documentary on Elvis sightings The Return of the King?. The Return of the King?, which won the 1993 Long Island Film Festival for Best Satirical Film, made writer/director Sikorski a sort of local Salman Rushdie when he received death threats and harassment at the hands of perturbed Elvis fans expecting a legitimate documentary disclosing the whereabouts of their hero.
The Tower of Babble cast consists of native New Yorkers Dean Marrazzo, Jim Williams, Tim Cinnante, James Napoli, Long Island Comedian Steve Montague, and New Jerseyan Bob Senkewicz. Additional vocal talents are provided by a familiar voice of The Economist , Bolen High, stand-up comedienne Jackie Enfield, and Judith Anderson, a budding actress
following in her daughters footsteps... Edie Falco of Sopranos fame.
Tower of Babble is dedicated to the memory of Chris Liano, an actor / producer, who passed away suddenly during its creation.
